I teach in a university teacher preparation program. Students graduating from the program are eligible to receive a preschool through 3rd grade teaching license. A question that often comes up from my students: how important is a teaching license for teaching in pre-kindergarten programs?
I am a Director for a large childcare/preschool, we require our pre-k lead teachers to have a 4 year degree or a CDA (child development associates). However, We prefer a 4 year degree. Many pre-k schools are beginning to require a teaching license. I believe pre-k schools should set higher standards by requiring licensed pre-k teachers. I am finding it is important to parents to have teaching professionals in their child's classroom.
